No rowdiness in our pub, pledge
Steve Haslam and Jo Drain - at the start of the £1million makeover
Steve Haslam and Jo Drain - at the start of the £1million makeover

WORRIED residents are being promised they won't be bothered by drunks or excessive noise once a pub reopens following a £1million refurbishment.

Work is now under way to transform the White Horse in Heath Road, Ramsden Heath, near Billericay. It has been closed for several weeks and is set to re-open this summer.

Lucy Rowe, spokesman for the pub said: "This gigantic project is due to open in late July or early August where, among several trial openings, there will be a grand opening charity ball to celebrate.

"Despite all the rumours and worries of loud music, discos, rowdy behaviour, these have no part to play in the future of the White Horse and are confined to the past.

"The White Horse will be a fantastic asset to everyone living in the village."

The £1million investment has come from pub owners Steve Haslam and Jo Drain, together with Enterprise Inns.

Steve and Jo are very experienced in the trade and currently run another pub and restaurant, the multi-award winning Cutter Inn in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

The couple were attracted to the White Horse by its pretty location and the fact they both grew up in the area.

Miss Rowe added: "They could see the vast opportunity the venue had and took over last September.

"They started to trade, but soon realised the pub was in a state of disrepair and closed."

Pub or restaurant goers entering the new and improved building will be greeted by a baby grand piano, leading into the restaurant area.

A large outdoor area, which has seating for up to 200 people, an outdoor bar plus the trampolines will remain to help provide entertainment for the children.

Obviously didnt do their homework very well did they, the Village already has a cracking pub ( The Nags Head ) as mentioned in the Daily Mirror 3 weeks ago, these ridiculous ideas of baby grand pianos is just not what the villagers want, somewhere good to eat at a reasonable price is, the windmill closed and reopened after a mass refurb and they are struggling like crazt because the food is rubbish and over priced. At least Alex the previous landlord of the White Horse did good reasonable food which made his business a success, watch these suckers fail !!!

I wonder how many publicans have made that claim? Unfortunately, after they have taken their money and thrown them out of the door at closing time, most publicans do not give a toss about what their customers get up to on the way home. What makes the new publicans at the Whire Horse any different?

It was never loud in the past?

How? because it has a piano?

Going to miss the way the "old" White Horse was. Doesn't sound like its going to be much of a locallers PUB any more...Sounds like more of a restaurant...Nags Head, Here I Come

Me and my friends greatly miss the old white horse. Thank goodness we found the Nags Head. The White Horse was a good local that served up good pub grub at reasonable pub prices.

This sounds like it is going to be a restaurant flop like so many others. The White Horse worked why change it?
